The Evolution Of Free Music Downloads

January 29th, 2009
by Scott McKenzie

Music downloads via the internet have come a long way in a small amount of time. Just a few short years ago music companies and individual artist were in an uproar over music download sites.

Music download sites such as Napster allowed online users to share and download music for free, and many individuals that would never consider doing something illegal figured it was okay to get the music for free and stopped buying it in stores!.

It grew to such popularity that the sales of new records bottomed out and artists were losing millions of dollars. Many sites like Napster were charged with pirating music and the industry managed to get these businesses to close.

They may have been down but they were not out for the count! Napster and similar websites revamped and came back this time offering one hundred percent legal music downloads and still free to join.

The popularity of legal music downloads is increasing with the rise of MP3 players. Downloading music legally is now a necessity, thanks to the digital revolution. Moreover, the risk of persecution has resulted in people feeling uncomfortable with free illegal music downloads. This change in buyer attitude has helped expansion of the industry. However, there are still some who continue to prefer downloading their music for free but they end up paying a price for it in most cases.

Many sites are available and they offer music for free. But you may find that you get what you pay for. Free music often comes with a price. It is common for the music to contain adware, spyware, and viruses that could permanently disable your computers. When you download from these sites you put yourself at risk and could even have charges brought against you for pirating music.

Do not take risk either for your computer or for yourself and insist on downloading legally available music from reputed websites only.

How to Watch Movies Online (Maybe I Was a Jerk??)

January 29th, 2009
by Sam Lockwood

So a friend sent me an email a few days ago to see if he could borrow the DVD of the movie “GoodFellas” from me. I emailed him the following message ? “Stop bothering me ? just go download it yourself!”

OK, so perhaps I wasn’t quite that abrupt. But he was a bit startled at first.

What I was trying to convey was that there really was no need to find the actual DVD. The only thing you need in order to watch a movie is your internet connection.

Lots of people have asked us the best way of downloading movies from the internet, and whether you really can find a large selection online.

The good news is that, yes, there is a vast selection of movies online. Finding a movie like GoodFellas is easier than ever. You can even find a selection of your favorite new releases ? probably an even better selection than you’d find at your local video store.

Alright. We’ve gotten that squared away, so let’s cover a more important question ? Where do I find movies online for download?

First of all, we need to let you know where to AVOID downloading movies. “Shareware” sites like Kazaa or Limewire are used to find lots of files online ? especially movies and music. While they work alright for music, they’re terrible for movies.

By downloading a movie from one of these sites, you take a huge risk of possibly infecting your computer with a virus. These sites are unmonitored ? anyone can upload whatever file they choose, so you never know exactly what you’re getting.

Other notable problems are a dismal selection and really slow download speeds.

With a shareware program, it can literally take a day or two just to download a single movie. This is because movie files are large, and download speeds can be very, very slow. You might not find what you’re looking for anyway because of the poor selection.

The next option is some kind of paid download service. There are many websites that let you download movies by paying for them individually. These “per download” fees usually run about $10 each. By using this service, you’ll get your movie via a secure network with a decent download speed.

Though it’s not a horrible option, it’s not the best either. It turns out there’s a much cheaper way to download movies with the same selection and quality.

There are specialized, membership-only websites that allow you to download an unlimited number of movies from their huge database just by logging on to the website. You do have to pay a one-time fee to register ? usually about $35 to $45. But once you pay this one-time fee, you’ll have complete access to movie downloads whenever you want.

The great thing about these kinds of services is that you’ll be able to choose and download any movie you like just by paying a one-time fee. There’s an incredible selection, and you get fast, secure, virus-free downloads.

The best membership sites will provide you with software for burning your movies to DVD so that you can watch them on TV, and not just on your computer.

So, you ask ? did my friend ever find GoodFellas?

Why, yes. Yes he did. And I’m quite sure he won’t be bothering me for more DVDs in the future!

Now that more people find movies online, you shouldn’t be surprised to find that over time the number of video stores starts to dwindle. Take advantage of downloading movies now and find your all-time favorite movies without ever leaving your house!

Free Music & Downloads

January 28th, 2009
by Scott McKenzie

Getting the music that you want from the internet is something that millions of people are doing right now, and they are finding that it is much easier than ever before thanks to music downloads becoming more common place.

Although, there are still some different sides to the free music download idea. Every site wants you to think that they have the largest amount of music but it is not uncommon for them to have less than they are claiming to provide.

It is common to question how a site is capable of providing many songs for nothing. Although they do get some advertising revenue that normally takes a long time to take off.

Free music download sites must make money somehow and they can do that in many ways. Some web sites use advertising to stay afloat however, they still have to pay royalties but they have been improved over time and have enough cash flow to keep going.

The most recent sites are taking a different less positive view. It is likely you have come across an ad for a new free laptop or gaming system. The same concept is being applied to free music downloads as well.

They claim if you participate in the offers of their sponsors you will be allowed free music downloads. However, you will find participating in the sponsor offers will require a significant amount of money before you will be allowed to visit the sites.

It is apparent that free music downloads may not be what it seems, and you need to be completely sure prior to joining a site that you are dealing with a legitimate trustworthy company that that takes care of all legal issues, and follows through on service as promised.
