The Greatest Car Movies
July 8th, 2009American’s love cars and movies, so what could be better than a fantastic car film? Here is a short list of some notable car movies from the past, sorry if we missed your favorite.
From the year 1968- Bullitt. Starring Steve McQueen and Jacqueline Bisset, directed by Peter Yates. This film features one of the greatest car chases in film history in a police/action thriller. Also features a “must see” 390 GT Mustang and a Dodge Charger 440 Magnum.
From 1974 – Gone in 60 Seconds – Featuring a yellow 1973 Ford Mustang christened Eleanor and an added of the greatest car chases in a 40-minute ending through Los Angeles and a crash course to teach the regular guy the essentials of the car-theft trade. And do not disregard the remake.
From 2000- Gone in 60 Seconds – starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie. Directed by Dominic Sena. Producer: Jerry Bruckheimer. With an all-star cast and crew this remake is not about the talents of the all-star group of actors and crew but rather it is about the cars, speedy cars, stolen cars, wrecked cars. This one is only about the cars.
From 1981 and from 1984, The Cannonball Run and The Cannonball Run 2. An odd group of actors of characters and unlawful street racing across the country. They will do no matter what to be triumphant.
From 1983 – Christine- An exercise in horror starring a cool but possessed 1957 Plymouth Fury. The account is from Stephen King, can’t go wrong there.
And everyone’s all-time favorite from 1973- American Graffiti. Takes us all back to the summer of 62. Features an all-star cast before they became stars. Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfuss, Cindy Williams and Mackenzie Phillips.
And there you have a condensed list of some of the best “car” movies. Of course, there is more because we will always have a love affair with our cars.
