Excellent performances by Williams and Chaney as individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize for screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith and Nathan E. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Sidney Poitier, Theodore Bike, Charles McGraw, Carnie Williams, and Lon Chaney, Jr. (97 minutes,’58)

Onionhead – A messy film with Griffith joining the Coast Guard in pre WW2 and becoming a ships chef. The flick tries to be a comedy, a romance, and a drama at the same time and succeeds at none. Cast includes Andy Griffith, Felicia Farr, Walter Matthau, Erin O’Brien, Joe Mantell, Ray Danton, James Gregory, Joey Bishop, Roscoe Karns, Claude Akins, Peter Brown, and Tige Andrews. (110 minutes,’58)

In Enemy Country – Average WW2 story, set in France and England, filmed on a back-lot. Not extremely persuading. Cast includes Tony Franciosa, Anjanette Comer

Airheads – 3 metal heads with toy guns reluctantly take a radio station prisoner, wanting to get airtime for their one and only demo tape. Not exactly the most demanding subject to satirize, although the script is weak anyway. A fairly vigorous direction and compact running time help a bit. (91 minutes,’94)
