This is one of the best B films of its kind albeit a key bank robbery is made up of stock footage lifted from Fritz Lang’s You Only Live Once. Cast includes Edmund Lowe, Anne Jeffreys, Lawrence Tierney, Eduardo Ciannelli, Elisha Chef, and Marc Lawrence. (70 minutes, 1945)
Bull Durham: This comedy is about life in the minor leagues of baseball. It centers on two players, veteran catcher Crash Davis, and rookie pitching prospect ‘Nuke’ LaLoosh. Nuke’s hopes and dreams are all in front of him, while Crash, who is helping Nuke learn the game, sees his career as a baseball player coming to an end.
The Net: Angela Bennett is a computer geek. She receives a program, and is asked to de-bug it. Shortly after receiving the program, the man who sent it to her is killed. What’s on the disc is of vital importance to someone. They know she has it, and she is now running for her life as she tries to figure out just who is after her, and why.
Just a Gigolo: Extremely fascinating cast is the best part of this odd melodrama featuring Bowie as a Prussian war vet who floats from job to job in Berlin before ultimately finding his real purpose. Dietrich, in her last film appearance, pops in long enough to sing the title melody. Rome’s vigorous performance gives lift to choppy film. Cast includes David Bowie, Sydne Rome, Kim Novak, David Hemmings, Maria Schell, Curt Jurgens, and Marlene Dietrich. (105 minutes, 1979)
House of Strangers: Dynamic drama of cruel financier Robinson who uses his 4 sons to carry out his own devious plans. Exclusive plot line has been used in assorted ways for numerous succeeding films.
